As a birth worker, you play a crucial role in facilitating a successful breastfeeding relationship between mother and baby. Join our course to gain a solid foundation in the basics of breastfeeding and enhance your skills and knowledge to better support nursing dyads. This course is tailored for doulas, midwives, and anyone seeking to increase their expertise in lactation support. This course is a live, virtual class that will run from 9 am to 12:30 pm. We will cover essential topics, including:

  • Anatomy and physiology of the lactating breast
  • Best practices for supporting breastfeeding after birth
  • Supporting proper positioning and latch
  • Infant reflexes and feeding cues
  • How to know when baby is getting enough
  • Early nursing challenges and management
  • Red flags and when to refer to a specialist

To prepare for attending our live, virtual class:

  • Make sure you have a quiet, undisturbed environment where you’re not preoccupied or distracted by driving, riding in a car, walking, etc. If you have small children, please have a care person to attend to them to avoid distractions.
  • You’ll need to have a reliable Internet connection for the duration of the entire online course. Be sure to keep your video on at all times while the classes are in session so you’re visible on camera. Missing any portion of the live virtual class may result in forfeiting your certificate of attendance.

Attendance fulfills the certification requirements for Birth and Postpartum Doulas with DONA International and provides 3 CEU’s from DONA. This course is taught by Brooklynn Gonzales RN, BSN, IBCLC. She is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and Registered Nurse with almost a decade of experience in women’s health spanning Labor & Delivery, High-Risk Antepartum and Mother-Baby units. As the owner of Milk-Fed Lactation, Brooklynn offers out-patient breastfeeding support. She takes a holistic approach, viewing the mother-baby dyad as competent and supporting them accordingly.
