Description
The breastfeeding relationship between Mother and Baby is one of the most important relationships of a lifetime. In this class, you’ll learn techniques and skills to better support mothers and babies during this precious time of their lives. This class is designed specifically for the birth professional: Doulas, midwives and those aspiring to become a lactation educator or specialist. The class runs from 1pm to 5:30 pm and topics include:
- Anatomy and physiology of the lactating breast
- Learn best practice in supporting breastfeeding in the first hour after birth
- Preventing problems with proper positioning and latch
- Understanding infant feeding cues
- Prenatal and mother/baby assessment
- Identification and management of common breastfeeding problems
- When to refer to a doctor or lactation specialist
Attendance provides 4 CEU’s from DONA International and also satisfies the certification requirement for new certifying birth and postpartum doulas. Taught by Jennifer Jordan, L&D R.N., IBCLC. Jennifer has 20 years of experience supporting breastfeeding families, and 25 years of teaching in the health-care field. Experienced in Labor and Delivery, Mother-Baby, and Newborn Care. A holistic approach to patient care is the cornerstone of Jen’s practice.
