Our in-person and online CEUs Courses are for Birth Professionals looking to improve their skills and expand their knowledge.
We offer several continuing education learning opportunities at SCI– both in-person and online classes. Many of these classes provide CEUs (Continuing Education Units) through DONA International and other organizations. CEUs are essential for Certified Doulas when it’s time to recertify, but many of these classes also provide CEUs that Labor & Delivery Nurses, NICU Nurses, Midwives, etc. can use for re-certification or licensing.

Our 8-hour course is offered in either two 4-hour sessions or 3-evening sessions for only $275, a fraction of the cost of full doula training. You’ll learn from Janine Maitri, the founding director of Sierra Childbirth Institute and a seasoned birth doula trainer with over 30 years of experience.
Navigating Hospital Births - A Class for Doulas
Location: Sacramento, CA
This enriching 3-hour class will enhance your doula practice for hospital birth clients, equipping you with the tools to advocate for your clients and effectively communicate with healthcare providers. Taught in-person at SCI by experienced L&D and Mother-Baby RN Brooklynn Gonzales from Kaiser Hospital, this class provides a guided journey from triage admission to postpartum discharge, incorporating visual aids of hospital facilities including triage, PACU, OR, newborn nursery, and NICU. Through a concise presentation, you will gain valuable knowledge on the rationale behind hospital procedures, empowering you to better support your clients in this setting. The 3-hour class includes interactive Q&A segments.

Janine brings 40+ years of experience to her classes and has witnessed and participated in the evolution of the doula profession since it began. In addition to running her own doula business for several decades, she’s been training people in the Art of Childbirth Assisting since the early 1980’s when doulas were known as Childbirth Assistants or Labor Companions. Janine is an advanced continuing education provider with DONA International and has been a DONA-approved birth doula trainer for 25+ years. Janine is passionate about helping doulas excel as respected and valued professionals on the maternity healthcare team.

As a birth worker, you play a crucial role in facilitating a successful breastfeeding relationship between mother and baby.
