The workshop is experiential and interactive, offering participants a broad-based learning experience. Participants learn in an environment that fosters self-growth while providing both didactic and hands-on experience. During the workshop participants will gain in-depth knowledge about the role of a doula during the postpartum period as well as a personal understanding of the emotions and spiritual nature of birth and life with a newborn.

The workshop is experiential and interactive, providing participants with a broad-based learning experience of evidence-based information. This course often becomes the beginning of a new career as a postpartum doula, or it can complement your current work. Attendance will provide all the confidence and training you need to work in this rewarding career and is the first step toward becoming a DONA International certified doula. There are no prerequisites.

Attendance at this comprehensive workshop fulfills two steps toward certification as a Postpartum Doula with DONA International– your postpartum doula training + the additional lactation course required for certification.
At Sierra Childbirth Institute, participants learn in an environment that fosters self-growth while providing both didactic and hands-on experience. During this workshop you will gain in-depth knowledge about the role of a doula during the postpartum period as well as an understanding of the emotional experience of birth and life with a newborn.

I’m excited to start my course today and learn!Original review: I’m sure the classes and team are great, but unless you have open availability for class date reschedules don’t spend your money here. They often have to change class dates due to low attendance, with a non existent refund policy that sets the expectation that you change your personal calendar to make it fit for whatever random date they choose. I’ve paid in full for the intro course and am now out the full cost.
Absolutely loved the birth doula training that I did with SCI and the wonderful Janine. The space itself is so warm, inviting and welcoming and Janine and her co-facilitator brought so much experience, wisdom and insight into the classes. I am a recent Sacramento transplant and SCI was one of the first places that I felt truly at home. The material was engaging and very well paced over the few days. I also really appreciated the inclusivity and intentionality of the language and the connections with the other lovely participants with whom did the training. It was a 10/10 experience and I very much hope/plan to do more training with them in the future. I wholeheartedly recommend SCI to anyone who wants to learn about becoming a doula, parent-educator, parent themselves or general birth practitioner. Great space! I have taken a few classes here and it’s always super cozy and comfortable. They always have tea available which is a major plus for me! The space is large enough to teach a small yoga class even and any other class that doesn’t require too much movement. Definitely looking forward to the next time I get to take a class here!

Jesse Remer, PDT(DONA)
For the past three decades Jesse (She/her) has supported healthy birth outcomes as a Lamaze Childbirth Educator, DONA International Birth and Postpartum Doula Trainer. Over the past 15 years she has trained birth professionals internationally from Iceland, Germany, Mexico and Spain and across the United States. She became passionate about the models developing in Trauma Informed Care (trained with TIC Oregon Trainer program) and how they apply directly towards health care equity across diverse populations, specifically people of color. She grew up in a family of entrepreneurs and thus believes that every part of the process is important to know intimately.

Yes! At SCI we provide several in-person and online training workshops throughout the year.
Our early-bird tuition is $775. Enroll within 3 weeks of any of our workshops to qualify for this 10% discounted rate.
Immediately! At SCI we provide comprehensive training that will leave you prepared to launch your practice as soon as you leave the workshop. For those who don’t feel 100% prepared, we’re always available to guide you after attending one of our training workshops. Your relationship with our trainers doesn’t end when you leave our classroom!
